Artist's Statement

'When the ear is penetrating, it becomes an eye' - Rumi

I'm interested in refocusing attention away from external stimuli towards inwardly activated qualities. This involves listening to sounds and silences, their relationships, contexts and meanings in order to reflect on what they might reveal and say beyond themselves. Using elements of repetition, stillness and immersivity, alternative places, atmospheres, and encounters are suggested. Sensations of time, memory, change and permanence compete to explore how conditioning and perception shape understanding and self-knowledge.
