muraiki - an installation and CD From CD sleeve notes: This composition explores the shakuhachi's expressive range of inflections in timbre, pitch, and dynamic as well as the spatial experience of sound in a crowded football stadium. By manipulating, rearranging and layering sound recordings of crowds at an Intertoto football match between Newcastle United and 1860 Munich, this installation embodies the intensity and purposefulness characteristic of traditional compositions and the solo playing of this japanese bamboo flute. This CD is a stereo version of a multispeaker installation first performed at the t-u-b-e galerie für radiophone Kunst, Munich, and the Globe Gallery, North Shields (UK), in February 2002.
